West Tour - Excursion Description
Discover the west side of Madeira, where history, nature, and culture converge in breathtaking landscapes. The tour begins in Câmara de Lobos, a colorful fishing village where Winston Churchill painted its stunning scenery in 1950. Here, you can try poncha, a traditional island drink, and see the fishing boats used to catch black scabbardfish.
The next stop is Cabo Girão, one of Europe’s highest sea cliffs, featuring a glass-floored viewpoint 580 meters above sea level, offering breathtaking views of the ocean and terraced farmland below.
Then, we pass through Ribeira Brava, a coastal village known for its mild climate and the Church of São Bento, which has architecture characteristic of Madeira.
At Paul da Serra, the island's largest plateau, enjoy the beauty of rolling meadows and mountains leading to the enchanting Fanal, where ancient Laurissilva trees create a magical atmosphere often cloaked in mist.
In Ribeira da Janela, admire the unique rock formations and dramatic coastal cliffs.
The journey continues to Porto Moniz, famous for its natural volcanic rock pools, where you can swim in a striking setting.
Scenic drive through Seixal, offering views of the black sand beach, followed by a stop at the Véu da Noiva viewpoint.
Passing through the village of São Vicente, thus ending the excursion.
